Hi.

My name is Kaylie! I started blogging over four years ago with the intention to show women that style comes in all shapes and sizes! After taking a trip to India last year, I re-branded The Sweltering Sweater into an ethical fashion blog. I want my readers to feel good about the clothes they're wearing, as well as where they came from!

5 Things I'm Thankful for This Thanksgiving + Giveaway with JORD Wooden Watches

If you follow me on Instagram (@theswelteringsweater) then you know I’ve been teasing a special surprise this week.

The first half of the surprise is that I am doing a second $100 giveaway for JORD Wooden Watches! I know that my friends, family and followers all loved the previous campaign we did together for Valentine’s Day (see here) and were disappointed when they did not win the first round. I am excited to be a partner with them this holiday season AND the second surprise is that I have a special guest joining me this time!

This is something I’ve thought long and hard about and I’ve often wondered whether I should post it at all.

I have chosen to share a majority of my life on social media and, truthfully, I don’t mind it all that much. It’s allows me to connect with people worldwide and acts as a source of knowledge for my followers to see what brands I am promoting and loving at that time.

Where it can become tricky is in the realm of close to the heart personal information. I’ve been back and forth on this a few times due to whether or not people would really care, if it was too soon to talk about this and whether or not my followers who are not in my current life stage will read this and feel down on themselves.

After a lot of thoughtful prayer and discussion, I think it’s time that I introduce you to my boyfriend, Benjamin.

It’s been tough keeping you all out of the loop on this one, but with today marking six months together I think it is the perfect time to familiarize him with my sweet followers. In order to do that, I put together 5 reasons I am thankful for Benjamin this Thanksgiving.

1. His leadership.
Never thought you’d hear me say that, right? In a world full of power abusive men, it’s nice to know that there are a few good leaders left. I not only love how he leads our Tuesday night bible study alongside myself and a few of our friends, but I also love that he allows me to choose to be led. He’s dating a very strong willed woman and, although that can be used for great things, it can also become an issue when I choose to be stubborn. I love that he views me as an equal, but also knows that I look up to him and respect him.

2. His heart for others.
If you look up the term “best friend” in the dictionary, I’m sure you’ll see Benjamin’s picture next to it. His friendship can be described as nothing short of fiercely loyal. He would do anything for his friends and family, but also those he barely knows. He’s a great listener and he has a natural gift of drawing people out of their shells and making them feel at home.

3. His relationship with Christ.
Talk about a man after God’s own heart, this guy is rock solid. I have never met someone who strives to live up to Christ’s standards the way he does. When you’re in a relationship, it can be really hard to not put your significant other up on a pedestal and make them number one. Ben is a constant reminder of God’s protection and love, but Benjamin cannot take His place (and he does not try to). Instead, Benjamin humbles himself and reminds me that if Christ is not at the center of everything we do, it will fail.

4. His sense of humor.
I never thought I’d meet someone who could keep me on my toes the way he does. As much as we talk about important, serious stuff, he never fails to make me laugh through the process. He doesn’t take himself too seriously either, even dressing up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast this halloween so we could be Taco Belle together :)

5. His support.
Starting a relationship with someone in the blogging world can be a bit daunting, especially if you have no social media (he has one profile, but I’m not snitching). We’ve had a few learning moments along the way, (mostly why we can’t just eat our food when it is served to us), but overall he has adapted tremendously and I’m sure he will continue to do so now that he’s slowly becoming a part of my blog. He is my cheerleader when I try new things and has come to a few fashion related events with me like The Volk Magazine’s summer fashion show and #Minnstafashion fashion week kickoff event.

When JORD watches reached out to us to do a thanksgiving campaign with them, Benjamin was very open to the opportunity and even came back to me with some great ideas for the shoot. He’s such a trooper and never makes me feel like I’m wasting my time doing something creative that I love.

Happy six months, babe. I am thankful for who you are and how you love me. Welcome to the blogging world ;)
