What Fashion Week Events I Will Be Attending
Fall Fashion Week begins in one day with the Minnstafashion kickoff event, so I thought I would do a rundown of events I want to try to attend this season.
Unlike the spring fashion week, I am quickly realizing that this season will not be as jam-packed for me. This is partially due to interest in the events they have this fall, other personal life events I’ve been invited to by friends and family and the understanding that this season I need to force myself to slow down and rest more.
With that being said, there are still a few events I have pinned down and will try to make it to:
Thursday, September 20th @ 7pm - W Minneapolis + The Scout Guide Present Minnstafashion: Official FWMN Kickoff Event
I always have a blast at the Minnstafashion Kickoff events! I think that this is the prime spot to network and get your name out into the fashion community. I also love to see the outfits on display that were created by local designers (I know my girl Hannah Johnson will have her designs on display again!) Even if you are not the most outgoing person, feel free to come find me at the event and say hello and I’ll introduce you to a few people to help you get going - I know I wish I’d had someone who could have done that for me :)
Funny story about this event: Last year Annis Nelson and I went to this event together for the first time and I knew NO ONE but her. Annis is introverted, so she got “peopled out” after a while and went to sit down. So here I am, by myself, and I’m terrified and I don’t know who to talk to. I see this girl with a super cute ruffled top standing a few feet away and so I gather up my courage and go up to her and say “Hi, I’m Kaylie, I really like your shirt” and we start talking and we both slowly grew less nervous and found some commonalities and ended up following each other on Instagram. Fast forward throughout the rest of fall fashion week and I see her multiple times and she introduces me to other bloggers and fashion loving friends and then in January of this year, she, Claudia Camargo starts up the Minneapolis Blogger Union! So, moral of the story: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and make connections in the industry because many of these ladies are the sweetest and truly have a lot of knowledge to share, and you may even gain a friend (or many friends) out of one stroke of courage!
Sunday, September 23rd @ 12pm - Blunt Cuts Live Podcast
A panel discussion filled with some of my favorite #girlbosses? Count me in! Attendees of this event will be a part of a live Blunt Cuts podcast run by Christina Fortier, Sarah Edwards, Jahna Peloquin, Kate Nelson, Lauren Krysti and Tessa Louise. There will also be a shopping event afterwards that is full of some wonderful, local, sustainable companies!
@ 1pm - Lookbook and @ 5:30pm - Design with Intention
My afternoon is pretty up in the air on this day, so I may or may not be able to make these two events. Either way, I am very excited for both and I am encouraged that local creators are making a name for themselves in the Twin Cities. If you like to support small business, specifically ethically produced and sustainability focused small business, then these two events are for you!
Saturday, September 29th @ 2pm - The Fitting Room Streetside Fashion Show and Shopping Party
Half fashion show, half shopping event, all local artisans! Speaking from experience, a majority of these companies I have worked with for the blog or for shoots for The Volk Magazine and their items are great quality and the creators are amazing people. I would highly recommend this event, plus the $10.00 you pay for your ticket can be put towards a discount on your purchase during the shopping portion!
Well there you have it, friends! My fall fashion week picks! If you go to these events, PLEASE feel free to come up and say hi. I love getting to know other fashion lovers in the community and I love discussing style and how we can change the fashion industry for the better in the future!
