At Home Teeth Whitening: Does it Work?
If you’ve been following along, this year has been a whirlwind. Like many others, I cannot believe we are already in October! Where did the time go?!?
Between interviewing for jobs in the spring, running my blog, working for The Volk Magazine this summer and fall, going to weddings and conquering two fashion weeks, I’ve interacted with many people in that time and seen a variety of smiles. After 7 years of spacers/retainers and 3 1/2 years of braces, the first thing I look at when I meet someone new is their smile.
A smile is what makes your look. The way your face crinkles up, the alignment of your teeth, the shade of your smile, etc. all make up how others perceive you. With all of the events I’m doing, and the fact that, as an influencer, I am the face of my own brand, my teeth need to be “on point” at all times. This means that I need to whiten my teeth regularly. Even if you are not an influencer though, your smile is still the main focus of your face and an important reflection of who you are.
Now, you may say “I’m so busy! I don’t have time to fit in a teeth whitening regimen!”, but you do, my friend, and Smile Brilliant has made it SUPER easy!
The first step of the Smile Brilliant process is to create molds for your trays. By mixing the white and blue putty in your kit (make sure they are thoroughly mixed to create a light blue color, NOT a marbled look), the hardening process begins, so pop the putty on both rows of teeth (be sure to push all the teeth in at the same time and have the putty exceed the gum line - the best impression will be one that clearly shows where the teeth and gums connect) and hold this position until the putty hardens. Then you send in your molds and wait a week for your customized trays to arrive!
Once the trays have arrived, the whitening process begins. I would recommend whitening in the evening when you won’t be drinking coffee or eating food and can let it continue to work throughout the night. Brush your teeth with a wet toothbrush to prepare them. Do an even layer of desensitizing gel in both trays and pop those in for 15 minutes. You can fold a load of laundry, answer work emails or come up with a solid Instagram caption in that time. Next, rinse the trays and rebrush your teeth with the wet toothbrush. Do an even layer of the whitening gel (each syringe is good for three uses, so don’t use too much!) and pop that in for anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how dramatic of a whitening you need. In this time you can vacuum your entire house, write a blog post or paint a room.
Once you have whitened your teeth to your liking, just rinse your teeth and go on your way with a new smile from Smile Brilliant!
